The Perfect Weekend in Porto: A 2-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Ribeira & the historic center
Start in Ribeira with a walk along the Douro, then climb the Dom Luís I Bridge's upper deck for skyline views. Spend the late morning exploring Porto Cathedral and the winding lanes down to the riverside square. After lunch at a riverside tasca, cross into Vila Nova de Gaia for a port wine cellar tour and tasting. In the evening, wander back across the lower bridge deck as the city lights come on.
Day 2: Aliados, Foz & the coast
Begin at Livraria Lello before the crowds, then climb Clérigos Tower for a panoramic view. Walk Aliados Avenue toward Mercado do Bolhão for a market lunch, then take Tram 1 out to Foz do Douro for a coastal afternoon — the Felgueiras lighthouse, a walk along the promenade, and fresh seafood as the sun goes down over the Atlantic.
Where to stay for this itinerary
Base yourself in Ribeira for an easy walking start to Day 1, or Aliados if you want central convenience for both days. Either way, book ahead — weekend rooms in these neighborhoods fill quickly, especially April through September.
